How do I check a electric fan

Going to the junk yard to get a Taurus fan. How can I put power to the fan to see if it is good?

pos to hot wire..I always make me a wire with a 30 amp fuse in it

there should be 3 wires. hi speed, low speed, and ground.
the ground might not be black, but its not a power color, like orange or yellow or red.
i believe the low speed is a green or blue, but i'm not sure.

THe Taurus fan should have black wire for groung and other two have orange or yellow stipe. I believe the one wit the orange stripe was the low speed wire. I just used a 12 ga. speaker wire to test that it worked.
