Replacing my stock headers

RE: Replacing my stock headers
Yes the kinked factory headers are normal, stock headers are not made with precise mandrel bends like aftermarket headers becaue of the production cost amongst other reasons, shorties will give a better flow and will sound better, once you take the factory header off of the car and look at it in comparison to the new header you will realize that you have made a very worthy improvement

RE: Replacing my stock headers
Thanxs alot for all the input guys,I appreciate it!!I'm sorry if this sounds like another dumb question but what does "equal and non equal headers" actually mean. Also are the stock headers equivalent to shortys in size or not?
Thanxs for the compliment 5pointslow91. I don't mean any disrespect with my avatar--I just happen to be apackers fan!
skinny_man18--I have pulleys,I just forgot to mention them. I'll be going after all that other stuff you mentioned down the road from now.

non equals are basically a bigger version of what you got now. equals are every primary tube is the same length where as the others are not. they will both bolt right up.

RE: Replacing my stock headers
Well I've decided to go with MAC shorties and I'm having a local garage put them in for me.The guy thats working on it owns 3 fox body mustangs and he knows his stuff. The only thing is that it will cost me $320 including the price of the headers to have them installed! Does that sound like a good deal? I would do it my self but I don't think I'll be able to get to the 2 bolts that hold the stock header to the pipe. Unless of course you guys have an easier way of doing it. I'm not worried about the bolts coming out of the engine block because I had them out when I replaced theheader gasket. If any of you guys have a better idea let me know--Thanxs

RE: Replacing my stock headers
I didnt ming your pic im a packers fan also!! I just replaced my stock headers with bbk and i like them alot....if you have any way of getting your car jacked up far enough you can get to the bolts that are at the flanges of your headers and pipe....save yourself 320 bucks....how much were your headers because it doesnt take much to swap them out....

RE: Replacing my stock headers
The headers were $150. So if I could get my car high enough I'd be able to get at those bolts? That would be saving myself $170 !! You didn't have to touch your O2 sensors did you?--or should I just change them anyway? Thanxs alot for the advise and help!

RE: Replacing my stock headers
If you wanna be cheap like me, I bought a new set of Summit shorty's (unequal length) for $99 on summitracing.com. They may not be the best, but they look great, sound great, and flow a hell of a lot better than the stocked ones.
And you're right. The stock headers are crimped and greatly restrict flow.
