Default RE: WTF gas mileage increased dramatically??!!

according to thermodynamics, the warmer the air around the system(engine) is, the more efficient the engine is

lets say the maximum temp of the engine can reach 250 degrees celcius

and the temp of the system on a cool day is 20 degrees celcius

the efficiency is given by (20)/(250)

but on a hotter day, say 30 degrees celcius

efficiency is 30/250

so a hotter day yields better efficiency

i cannot quite remember if the temp measurements are in kelvin or celcius for the calculation but they give the same general conceptual result

Default RE: WTF gas mileage increased dramatically??!!

ORIGINAL: 92hatchLX

My gas mileage has increased dramatically since I installed the 180 degree T-stat on Friday night. I used to get around 50 miles before my gas gauge needle got down to the 3/4 line after I filled up, yesterday it hit 78 miles when it got to the 3/4 mark and I was driving very "spirited" on my way home from work. What the heck? I thought that if anything it would make you run richer??? Also there was a SOTP differenceafter the 180 degree t-statswapfor some reason, it feels like it's pulling a lotstronger when I mash the go fast pedal. Can someone help me here? lol
replace your air charge temperature sensor, and coolant temperature sensors
