Default Machinist Nightmare

I have a Hyd. Roller 351W block and I was wondering if any of you could give me an estimate on how much all the machine work to take it to a larger c.i.d. but keep it reliable so I don't have to rebuild it every 10K miles....and what kityou guys think would give me the best bang for my buck...Your input is greatly appreciated.

I was looking at the Ford Strokers.com stuff and found the 393 stuff which is under budget and I was wondering your opinion on it...is it not big enough to make a real difference or is it worth the extra money to go 408...and what about the reliablity on the motor?

You got some pretty good input. A 408 mild compression motor with a moderately aggressive camshaft (to lighten load on springs) can last you a long time. Basically everything is a function of how you want to drive. Anything you drive ***** to the walls from the track to the grocery store is going o fail you at some point. I had 30,000 on my last 408 car until an error on my part brought it down. I paid $1700 for the block, $925 for the machine work (cylinder bores, lifter bore finish honing, and notching for the stroker crank). I had $1800 tied up in crank, rods pistons and rings. And I abused that motor quite a bit. Daily driving is actually tough on an engine so you will not want to run real high compression or really radical cam lift.

If I plan on adding boost (10-15 psi) later in the engine's life and run 9.5 comp. ratio and run a mild cam maybe a little bigger than stock and go with that 408 kit with maybe some aftermarket heads or stock ported heads with aftermarket springs. How reliable would that be and what is your opinion on the setup???
