Default opinions on buying project

Hey im a 4.6 guy but i found a guy in town that is selling a 87 notch rolling chassis and a 5.0 motor. Im not sure if it comes with a tranny but the list price is $400 and i could probably negotiate that down a little more. I havent seen any pictures but i was planning on trying to paint it with rustoleum paint ($50). Possibly turn it into a beater/track car so i dont really care about interior much. I know this is hard without pictures but how much do you think this is worth? Should i attempt and is a 5.0 rebuild insanely difficult if it turns out i have to do one? Thanks sorry for the long post, Eric

For $400, cannt beat that. I would say go for it. But the rustoleum paint thing doesnt sit well with me.

Rustoleum sits fine with me if its so fast that no one can see it anyhow...

$400 for a notch is a steal in almost any shape. Core motor should be worth at least a couple hundred.

I know its not show quality but i imagine if i took my time itd be better than the crap on it after 20 years. Rolling chassis means no engine no trans right? So i would need a tranny too i think. I think this might be a cool project.

deffinatly would be a good project im rebuilding my first one 5.0 and it is my actual first complete tear down of one of my cars and so far its been straight foward. now im just trying to earn the money to build it the way id like too. you could probably have a nice car for a total investment of like 3 gs plus the price of the car assuming you even want to spend that much...
