I need to rebuild my motor, but i don't know how
whatsup, here's my dilema. i can either buy a used motor from a junk yard with 90000 miles on it for 600 bucks, or i could buy a kit and try it myself. here's the other problem, the only engine i've ever rebuilt is a two stroke fourwheeler engine, and thats it. I need to konw if it is even plausible for me to rebuild this motor and make it reliable. The problem with the motor was that it has a bad main or rod bearing. it has a knock, so i'm assuming i would just buy a complete rebuild kit from summit because that sounds like the supplier of choice. please if anyone can give some advice on what i should take into consideration and if i should take this challenge and run with it. thanks

yes you can do it yourself, you just need to have detailed instructions for torque specs and clearances. also, don't skimp on machine work, you should have the heads and block cleaned and get a valve job on the heads and the block machined, honed, and new cam bearings. have the crank turned and rods re-sized and fitted into either the stock postons (if those are what you want and you dont have to re-bore) or whatever aftermarket pistons you get.

yea.... for your first time you might have it apart for a few weeks lol... it will be fun tho.... might consider pnp heads and goin with an aftermarket cam

another option is some companies sell and install rebuilt engine, but don't see too many that do this with HO 5.0 engines. you might try Jasper engines or Dr. Motorworks as two potential places to get a rebuilt one rather than go with an unknown from the junk yard.
