I just recently bought a 1985 lx 5.0. Its bored to a 306, electric fans, shorty headers, holly double pumper and a holly shifter. The car has a new motor with 13,000 miles.Other then that i don't know much about the car. The car was built from theframe up from previous owner, and seems to be built real well.It is my first mustang, and I want more mods. Any opinion or Ideas would be great. The only problem I have is that when i down shift and stomp on the gas it seems to bog and sputter(loosing alot of hp)as if its getting to much gas or not enough. The carburetor seems to be running fine and in good shape. The motor is super clean. If any one could help me figure out what could be the problem or any ideas on the vehicle it self would be greatly appreciate.

The engine is most likely way over carb'd. Do you know what CFM the carb is?

That and being a double pumper the secondary accelerator pump might be way off as well

I think HackGT350 is good with carbs, might wanna PM him..

i had that problem with my old 5.0 motor, the advance lines in the carb were clogged because the paint they used chipped off inside the tubing causing it to clog, watch down in the barrels and have a buddy rev it and see if gas squirts out of the advance lines.

I would try a carb spacer i put one on my 87LX 4 cyl. conversion car that had a carb. 302 and it seemed to bog or hesitate when i would get on it then i slapped a 1 in. carb spacer on it and it defitenly seemed to help plus there only about $25 and take maybey 30 mins. to put on.

I dont know what CFM my carb is! How would i be able to find that out? I know its a holley four barrel double pumper thats it. The cars new to me, still trying to discover everything about it. I also have a holley high performance fuel pump, that is super loud and it doesnt seem to turn off. It has a switch for it that i can manually turn it off, but thats it. I was thinking it may be a fuel pressure regulator because i cant seem to locate/ even know if my car has one. Hell I dont know, any ideas or opinions would help...
