Default need advice on a stang

i was offered a non running 1990 gt, basically for free. the engine is no good. i'm thinking about getting it but the guy told me that the car has been sitting for about two years. i know thats a long time for a car to be sitting so if i get it, i already know that i would have to rebuild the motor, should i also do the tranny? what else should i for to replace or repair as in the rear end, rack and pinion, brake calipers, wheel cylinders and bearings? thanks for the help.

get it and see... tranys can sit for years and years and still be good... as for a rear end too... just make sure all the oil's are clean.... the rack is most likley going to be leaking, but leakin enough to change? maybe, maybe not... might need some new break lines.................. the only way your going to know ANYTHING is to do a deep exam of car

a very thorough inspection of all the major systems will tell you what needs to be replaced. don't think the tranny and rear end need anything more than the lube drained and replaced with fresh oil. I would flush out all the old brake fluid from the system and inspect the hard lines for corrosion and replace them as needed. also check the rubber hoses and replace them too if you find cracks etc. in them. also clean and repack the front wheel bearings with fresh grease. and thoroughly flush the cooling system out really good to.

For free, definately worth it, but don't be suprised to be nickled and dimed for a while, while you figure out what needs to be replaced. Little things such as the radiator, thermostat, hoses, electrical connections, battery, fluids, bulbs, etc. can all take a beating after sitting for two years like you said, but then again, I used to have a 77 El camino that sat for two years, and all I did was put a fresh tank of gas in it and drove it for a few years, then I sold it realizing that I was a ford guy thanks to my best bro. But worth it, and good luck.
