Default What could cause my fog lamp switch to burn out??

Hey, a while back, my fogs stopped working. I would have simply replaced the bulbs, but I could tell it wasn't the bulbs. A bit before it went out, the switch went all moody on me and would sometimes switch them on, and sometimes not, I had to play with the switch a bit to get it to come on, eventually, they just stopped working completely. Recently I took apart the console to get to my tach, which is not working, and I noticed the harness for the fog switch was melted. What could have caused this?

Also, my tach has a burnt resistor and two diodes also burnt. Around that time a mechanic had to replace the power coil in the steering column after he screwed it up installing a new steering rack. Could he have caused a short circuit somewhere I should look for?

If I need to drop the steering column, any guides for such a procedure?

Thanks for any input guys.

your fog light switch is a comom problem. they tend to burnout alot. youll have to run a seperate relay from the switch to take the amp draw of the fog lights. there was an ariticle a few years back in MMFF

What do you mean run a separate relay? Is it something I could just buy? If so, from where?

HOLY CRAP $160!

Ok, my foglamps are not THAT important, plus, this kit is to fix the headlamps, not the foglamps, but seriously, thanks anyway for the help, I appreciate it, but I think I'll just leave it alone for now.
