Why why why why? Cost cutting measure to not sync the rev gear in 5sp in these 5 o's?

1st gear syncro gets the most abuse as it is... so why put more on it... use 4th ot 5th gear, then put it in reverse.

Its like that so you cant toss it into reverse while moving forward. Put it in 5th before you go into reverse, and it'll slide right in

Whether you're moving or not has nothing to do with it, if you engage the clutch in neutral the input shaft on the tranny gets power and spins, and when you disengage the clutch and try to put in it reverse you're attempting to mesh gears on a moving input shaftwith a non-moving output shaft. Just cuz the car ain't moving doesn't mean tranny parts aren't. But yeah, just synch in a forward gear then rev. I use 1st on my toploader(it's quickest becuase reverse is 1 over to the left of 1st) and have no problems with it.
