I need help with my ecu ???
I have a 1989 mlx sport. 5.0 and a 5 speed manual. The ecu in it got burned out. I am trying to find a new one. I have had alot of people tell me that a 89 has a different ecu in it than any other car. I have seen the car run for years with a a9l ecu in it. I checked the door and it says to use a a9l. But when i want to get the ecu they told me it had to be a 89 or it would not work. My car has a 92 gt motor in it, and the ecu that was for the motor was the one in it. Can anyone help me get this mess fixed??

Since you have an 1989, you will need a MASS AIR FLOW computer, look at the list below in BOLD and get your hands on any of those. EBay has them for sale all the time.

Unless I'm reading it wrong, then he had a computer from a 92 in it anyway. Unless he's pulling fron an 87 or older (or an SN95), MAF shouldn't be a problem. This should be a real easy fund and is probably cheaper than hell at a junkyard.

Maybe that post was misleading... Just stating what YEARS the ECU's came out of, for help finding them.
Any of these ECU's will work... A9L, A9S, A3M, X3Z for your car.
88 had speed density, (Except cali models) 89-93 had MAF

When I had my conputer out and when I was attaching and setting up my Tweecer, I gave it some serious consideration. But I just wasn't ready to deal with all of that. Not that it's any easier trying to manually tune everything...but still. It was just a bit too intimidating for me.

I want to thank you for helping me out. I did not know that the A9L was the ECU for 89 to 92 models. I am going to go to a couple of places that I have talked to about a A9L. I just wanted to be sure that I am not going to blow up the thing again. The guy i got it from really screwed this car up. I bought it cause it is a 25th year annaversery mlx. The body is in real nice shape still. Thanks Let you know how it turnes out.
