HELP!! Lost 5th gear!! What's up!?
Whats up?
I was drivin on the highway, in 5th, and all of asudden my rpms flew up, and I looked down thinking maybe it popped out of gear, but no, it was still in 5th!! My clutch doesn't slip in any other gear, and it goes into all the other gears perfect. Before this 5th worked perfectly, no grind, went into gear fine. It even feels like neutral, it can slip into 5th gear without pushing the clutch in at all. Essentially, 5th gear is another neutral.
I have a pro-5.0 shifter, by the way.
Does anyone have any idea what is it? I need to drive home to Fl from where I am in VA right now in 2 weeks, and the fastest I want to go is like 50 cause the rmps is at 2.5k in 4th. So if I don't figure it out, ill probably fly home.
Anyone?

Is there a way to adjust your shifter? Perhaps something came loose and it's not actually moving the shift fork all the way and engaging 5th? Could be something inside the tranny like a bent fork or maybe the dog gear for 5th lost it's teeth etc. Any grinding metal sounds? Have you checked the fluid?

I hope it's nothing in the tranny? As far as metal sounds, there are none of those. And no, I haven't checked the fluid level. I'll get on that.

It kind of sounds like a shift fork. Either way the trans needs to come out. All older cars that had C4s, C6s, 350 turbo, 400 turbo, torqueflight 727, 4 speed manuals etc etc etc did not have overdrive and those cars lasted for years. You would be fine driving in just forth(same as 3rd in the autos stated above). Just dont drive at 90mph. If you dont get it fixed in two weeks just drive it back, I would.
