Default gear drive timing set

so whats the general consenses on a gear drive timing set? worth the install ? how reliable?

I'd say that they are not worth the money or the effort to install, that's my personal opinion. Stick with the double roller chain and gears and you'll be just fine .

Gear drives can be a bit more accurate in terms of timing, but it's not enough that you'd ever notice and certainly not worth the money. The main reason people do it is the sound.

Vibration created can actually shorten the lifespan of the bearings...on your avg street/strip car there is no advantage but they do have their place.

gear drive is nice because it doesnt ever really wear out like a timing chain so you do get more acurate timing over time, but its more weight on the valvetrain so you lose horsepower. As i always say if it doesnt make it go faster, whats the point
