Need anyone who uses Astro Performance to look here>>>>>
I bought an Astro Performance 28 oz flywheel for my Stang to fit my 351W. I cannot for the life of me get any bolts to fit it to mount my pressure plate. The company says you will either need 5/16 x 18 x 1 bolts, or 5/16 x 24 1 bolts. I have tried both and neither will thread in. I can make about 1 turn and they lock up.
It is set up to be used with either a 10.5" clutch or 11" clutch. The 11" uses 3/8 bolts and they will thread in, but I do not have an 11" clutch. Have any of you guys used their flywheels before? If so, did you have any trouble with them? I've had this car torn apart for 2 weeks now and I need to get it back together.
I took it off and went to the part stores, and I cannot even find a bolt to thread in it there. Is there another pitch bolt I can try? I tried the 5/16 x 18 and the 5/16 x 24. Nothing works. It's like the holes are threaded wrong or something. They are indeed 5/16 bolt holes, but nothing works with them. We even tried a metric bolt to no avail. I'm getting sick of messing with this.
Need some help here. Any takers?
Here is the flywheel. Larger holes for the 11" clutch, smaller ones for the 10.5".
Here is the quote from their site: (and i have called them, and they dont have any answers)
"
Description:"Billet Steel" Flywheel. 157T/28 OZ. Balance.
Notes:
1.) Flywheel meets S.F.I. 1.1 Certification, and has "Dual Bolt" Patterns for 10.5" and 11" Clutch Kit. Flywheel weighs16 lbs.
2.) You will need to purchase 6 New Pressure Plate Bolts and Lock Washers to attach Clutch Kit to this Flywheel.Factory/OEM Pressure Plate Bolts will not work with this Flywheel.
3.) The Pressure Plate to Flywheel Bolts required are 5/16"-18 and/or 5/16"-24. Factory/OEM Dowel Pins can be reused. Enlargening of the Pressure Plate Bolt Holes on the Pressure Plate may be needed in order to fit "Larger" 5/16" Pressure Plate Bolts.

RE: Need anyone who uses Astro Performance to look here>>>>>
Well call them again and tell them to find an answer like sending you out another with a return label to send back the one you have with the incorrectly drilled holes. If you have bought the screws they have told you to use and it does not fit than they have supplied you with a defective part.

Well, I just got back from the last part store around here. The guy in there builds race cars and has never seen one that he couldn't find bolts for. He said send it back as well. So I emailed the guy at Astro and asked him to send me a new one. We'll see what happens.
