Why do my brakes go...
shake really bad when i hit 'em? Its not as bad when im only doing about 30-40 down. but if im going 70+ then it shakes the car really really bad. Today i bought rotors and pads for the front two (cause they're usually 80% of the stopping power) and i looked and the pads are still pretty meaty and the rotors are as smooth as my girlfriend's behind! I = confused...

+1 on the warped rotors. Unfortunately, it seems to happen quite a bit. I just ran into this with my other car. Tried getting them turned but it didn't help so I had to say screw it and get new ones...problem solved.

lateral runout seems to be the cause of the vibration, check rotor with a dial indicatorfor runout. if you dont have enough rotor left after wear tolerance is added in to your runout then new rotors are the best option.

should i explain better? simple terms? lateral runout is when the rotor has a warpage or bow created from either heat, running over something,or a person turning your rotors and screwing them up for you. to measure lateral runout, place a dial indicator on a solid area of the spindle, or caliper set the are of the indicator against the rotor set the indicator to zero, turn the rotor by hand and read how much the needle reads above zero..ie .001which is spec for most manufactuers, but what ever the reading, write it down turn the rotor completely around.whatever your highest reading is thats r maximum lateral runout. wear tolerance is how much the manufactuer says the rotor will wear between brake jobs under normal driving situations.

its not from being hard on them, not from my part anyways. they've been like this since i bought this car 5 or 6 wks ago. i've just always been downshifting or passing everyone to reduce the usage.
