In the United States during the 1980s a federal law was passed mandating that speedometers on newly manufactured vehicles could not display speeds higher than 85 mph. This law is no longer in effect.

Aspeedometer that only goes to 85 is gonna make someone slow down? I dont see the logic in that.. its actually more fun to watch the needle peg and twitch which encourages me to speed

I have an 89 and i have a 140 speedo. Does this mean its been replaced?
and 86 5.0L, if i had a camera last night i coulda posted a pic of mine past 140fastest ive ever had my car going and i just had to share!
