What BRAND of gears? and other ?'s
i've decided to do them. 3:90's.i'll have my mechanic do all the work, so i'll have to supply him with everything. so here's my questions
What brand of gears should i get?
How much oil, and what kind?
Any bearings?
Install kit?
and what about a trak-lok rebuild?
it's a standard 8.8 rearend

RE: What BRAND of gears? and other ?'s
When I bought gears, I went with Ford Racing parts, simply because you will almost always be able to re-use the original shims. I'm not sure if they make 3.90s tho. I bought a generic install / bearing kit from Summit, it comes with all kinds of stuff. All I used in the kit were the new ring gear bolts, pinion bolt, crush collar, new bearings, and seals for the whole rear. Most kits come with TONS of really thin shims and whatnot, however if you buy FRPP parts you can reuse the stock stuff...atleast I did.As far as oil, buy 3 quarts of 75-140 with a bottle of friction modifier. I used Motorcraft stuff.

Usually people use FRPP gears, the cheaper the gears are the more likely they are to whine. The install kit should come with all the things you need to replace. If your car only leaves one track when burning out you need to rebuild the trak-lok. You might as well while the rearend is apart.Im not sure on the fluid might want totry the search feature or wait for someone else to post.
