intercooler without turbo or sc
I read somewhere (doesnt that always seem to be the place) that you can still somewhat effectively utilize an intercooler without actually turboing or supercharging your car, I assume this just has you regular air intake pass through the intercooler before it goes to your engine, but I honestly have no idea. I am, however, very interested in this, if any has any thoughts, comments, info on it let me know. Thanks ahead for any input/advice/comments.

What racer said... its not necessary
turbos or superchargers heat up the air alot.. so you need the intercooler to bring it back down to around ambient temp... since an air to air I/C can really only make the air as cold as the outside air passing through it.. if you are already drawing in outside air.. there really is no way to get it any colder.

alrite thanks guys, i was kinda of curious exactly why that would be necessary, i thought maybe due to it cooling the air, ie making it more dense, it may still work for 10+ hp, but now that i read what you said it makes alot more sense not to do that, thanks

an intercooler is only gonna be able to cool the air to outside temp at its best, and when the incoming air is already at outside temp their would be no percieved benefit - probably will cost you hp because it is a restriction in the intake system. Chemical cooling, like water / methanol injection could get the temps below outside temp and you would get some benefit from that, but not much on a NA car really since the air doesnt get really all that heated.

An intercooler will cost you power unless you are FIed, even with FI the intercooler restricts flow 1 to 2 lbs but the beniftis of cooling the compreesed air from 160* to around 100* on an really effishent air to air intercooler are
you dont destroy your engine
you can run over 9lbs of boost
From what i under stand.
