Nitrous question
OK, the engine is an '88 running MAF.
just refreshed the engine with a complete gasket set, underdrive pulleys, intake spacer, gasket matched and polished heads and intakes, A/C delete, no emissions and long tube headers. Eventualy i will be getting a cam (what do you suggest?)and some roller rockers.
basicaly wondering how much a stock 5.0HO can handle. I was planning to run a turbo but may be trading for the kit below. I want to make around 500HP on the nitrous.
This is the kit i may be getting:
"I have a 275hp adjustable plate cheeter set up with all the pills, full 10 lb NOS bottle, fuel presure guage, stainless steel lines for the nos hook up, all an fittings required are included. also enough braided steel fuel lines to run the full system, new holley blue fuel pump, and adjustable fuel pressure system"

RE: Nitrous question
if your going to spray stock pistons 275?
video tape it, because its going to look like a bottle rocket!!!!!!
haul *** out to begin with, and right after the 1/8 mile mark BOOM lol
ive sprayed stock pistons 175, but i had it very rich, and the timing way way down. and most of all it wasnt my car!!!!!!!
if its going to be a nitrious car, buy a nitrious cam
if its going to be a street car and you want to spray it too, just get it running as good as you can on the motor first, then tune it in with the nitrious from there.
depends on what kind of pistons you have, to what kind of camshaft you can use.

RE: Nitrous question
Yeah, i figured that would be WAY too big, but it does come with other jets and what not, probably run a 125 or so for now. I plan to stroke an dpoke it to a 347 this winter, how good are the stock forged pistons? what would it taketo make it handle say a 200 shot safely? I want to keep it as close to 500HP as possible so i dont have to buy an aftermarket block. From the sounds of it, making 500hp would be much easier with a turbo setup than with nitrous. I mean i am gonna me aiming for 300HP before any power adder, and all it would take is about 10 pounds of boost to get pretty close to the 500HP mark. Where as with nitrous i cant safely spray enough to get to the 500hp mark.
Not knowing too much about nitrous, so the above statement is me assuming that a 125 shot will add around 125HP, 150 will add 150HP and so on and so forth... Is that correct? From what i remember people saying, you lose about 15% of your horsepower by the time it hits the ground, meaning a 500HP engine will put around 425HP to the ground, which is exactly what i am looking for , around 400WHP. Using some of those 1/4 mile calculators, 425WHP in my 2500lb car should get me into the 10s.

RE: Nitrous question
The more you spray, the more heat you have as well. If you're building a nitrous setup you need very good pistons/rings with proper ring end gap for the nitrous shotyou're using if you want it to last.
