Starter Overheating
Hope you guys don't mind me posting this here since I have a '65, but I think it's relevant. I just put a 342 stroker in my mustang. It's 11:1 compression and I have a stock starter. It starts fine when cold but once the car gets warm and you shut it off, it won't start for hours. The battery is good and the alternator is charging. It is acting as if the starter isgetting heat soaked. So I put ceramic coated headers and a heat shield on the starter and it is still just as bad. Do you guys think I need a different starter or is there another problem? Any starter recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks in advance ya'll.

RE: Starter Overheating
yup heat soak alright.. I had the same problem with my 89 after i put my longtubes in.. all the heat from the headers soaked into the starter and would start just fine when cld, but wouldnt turn over worth of crap even with a quick 10 miutes drive. What i would do is upgrade to a 92+ mustang starter. they are smaller, and have more torque. I on teh other ahnd ungraded to an ebay mini high toruqe starter that i grabbed for 45 bones brand new.
