I agree with the high volume over high pressure. I've heard HV pumps are fine in stock pans, but for clearance i had to switch the outside most bolt with the stock bolt.

.....cause ford didnt know what they were doing when they used a high pressure pump instead of a high volume on the high winding boss 302's right?

you dont have to take my (or anyone elses advice) but whatever.............

High pressure is good for high winding and high horsepower output engines, it helps maintain the oil wedge so the rods/crank keep floating when the cylinder pressure/reciprocating force is high

so i will just stay with the melling high volume that i already have , but for pan wise i am still a little undecided. i will stay with the stock pan if is enough i guess.

I've never heard of a difference between a high pressure and high volume pump. Guess I just don't have enough experience yet. I'm pretty sure, though, that the pressure is created by clearances in the motor and not the pump. The pump only controls amount of flow. I guess the higher pressure pump has a tougher pressure relief valve spring and that is it. Anyways, you don't need a high pressure or high volume pump on a non race motor. You're just robbing yourself of power. Higher volume= increased windaging. Increased windaging=loss of power. A standard pump will do the job unless u are running wider clearances in the motor. You will get no benefit from a high volume(pressure) pump in a stock motor. You will actually see a loss.

You're just wasting money man for little to no gain, Just spend 40 bucks and get a stock pump and spend the 250 on tires or somethin that u will actually feel a difference from.

Yes, a high pressure pump has a stiffer relief spring, a high volume pump has larger rotors and can flow more, yes pressure and flow are restricted by engine clearances, a stock pump is fine in a simple motor, and the power loss(that your butt dyno will never notice) comes from increased effort to pump oil, either by moving a larger volume or pushing against greater pressure. There are places for certain pumps, I would never try to turn serious rpm in an engine without a high pressure pump, nor would I use standard volume in an engine with large clearances

Your power loss is from increased windaging. If you don't believe that it makes a difference in power then talk to the people who make windage trays or block of the center return holes in the lifter valley to decrease windaging.
