Default 289/302 question

Ok, heres the deal.. My uncle has a built motor that he took apart and replaced almost everything but the block with bigger and better things (to stroke it and etc.). He said he would sell everything to me if i could get a block. It originally was a 289 that he bored to 306. My question is do i have to have to find a 289 block and machine it or can i get a 302 block to start with?

No that's OK....if that 289 block was fitted with a 302 crankshaft/rods and .03" overbore is a 306.......you could use either block.

yeah, but you'd need an early 302 block (2 piece rear main seal) if your using the rotating assembly he has, OR you can have the lip ground off the back of the crank, use a seal saver, and install it into a 1 piece / roller block (you'd still need to use 28oz balancer and flywheel.

for the record though, 289 > 302

what doesnt make sense is that you claimed he bored a 289 to a 306. you have to change the crank to go to 302 and then bore to 306. you cant bore a 289 to 306
