RE: front sway bar question! help!
Never heard of repacking bearings for an alignment either. Go back and ask them if they know where the filler for the blinker fluid is.
Id start looking for another shop to go to.

RE: front sway bar question! help!
Before they do an alignment, they'll raise the car and wiggle the wheels by hand up and down and side to side to check the tie rod ends and ball joints for wear. An experienced mechaniccan alsotell if the wheel bearing is loose by using this technique. I only jack up one front wheel and leave the other on the ground to hold it in place, then have someone wiggle the wheel left and right and I watch the inner and outer tie rod ends for movement. Then I have them wiggle it up and down and I watch the ball joint for movement. If they don't show any sloppiness, then I wiggle the wheel myself and if it's not tight then that means the bearing is loose. If the tie rods or ball joints are sloppy, it's hard to tell if the bearing is loose, so I replace any bad tie rod ends and/or ball joints then check the wheel for looseness and decide if the bearing is loose or not at that time. A loose bearing doesn't always mean it needs re-packed, it may just need to be tightened... but you have to take the grease cap off, remove the cotter pin and nut cap to tighten it, so why not just re-pack it with some fresh grease while you are at it. Everything on the frontend must be tight to do a proper alignment.
