the check engine light won't come on

i have pulled the smog off 2 cars now, an '89 and my current '93

you need to plug 2 vac lines, you need to plug the back of the heads where the "y" pipe comes off, shorter belt and thats about it

there are threaded inserts (thermactor plugs) that you can buy that are what you are supposed to use on the heads, or you can cut the ends of the y pipe off, flip flop them and rtv them then put them back on

federal law prohibits removing the cats so you can still get a hefty ticket

This is the guide I used http://www.allfordmustangs.com/techarticles/Smog2.pdf
I used it 3 weeks ago to remove the emissions stuff on my car. I should be able to answer your questions if you go this route.

My cats are going bad so I am about to do midpipe, i was thinking of an O/R X but does it really smell as bad as your saying, from others with O/R pipes this is a complaint I haven't heard before...

Well with my long tubes and an off road h-pipe it stinks so bad. Leathal. I would drive it for like a half hour, get out of the car and go inside and reeek of exhust. I can smell it just comming off my body. I dont know if its just my setup or what. I've had off road h pipeswith shorty headders in the pastand I don't remember it smelling as bad as it does now.
