What year is your stang?, if you have rear disc brakes you have to unbolt the ABS sensors to allow the axles to slide in.

Okay just noticed you have an 89, after the carrier cross pin is removed you should be able to push the axles in remove the c-clips and slide the axles out. If your having that much trouble on that wait untilyou go to pull the old axle bearings out!

you dont have to take out the s spring to get the c clips out. if the axles dont seem like there going in enough to get the clips, make sure the the back of the lug nut studs arent hitting anything on the drum brakes, if they are turn the driveshaft a little to rotate the axle a little to get the clearance needed to push the axle all the way in.

You may have to turn the rearend to expose the c-clips. Eash one is under the spring and can only be pulled out from one side of the spring. The spring doesnt have to come out but you have to line the clip up with it properly so it will slide out. Other than that just follow what was said above.
