Default Help!! 86 GT won't start after short drive after heater core install...

Hey guys, I replaced the heater core on my 86 GT vert today. Afterwards, I reinstalled the negative battery cable, started it up and drove about a mile to a Sheetz near my house to get something to eat. The engine temp seemed to be fine, which was a relief, and the car had its power back. I got back in my car and tried to start it, at first it clicked, then it didn't make a sound. My headlights would turn on at first, but then after a while, they wouldn't even turn on. I tried to jump start it, and it cranked like once or twice, not enough to start it though. My friend took me home, then I went back and tried to play with it a little. I went to crank it, and nothing at all. My locks dont work, or windows, or any lights. To this point i've replaced the heater core, both battery cables, the starter, starter relay, starter solenoid, ignition coil, ignition module and plugs. Does this sound like a short or just an incredibly dead battery? Thanks for the help guys...I'm at a loss for ideas here, i figured i'd let the experts see if they can help...

Sounds like a dead battery but test it with a volt meter takes 30 seconds at the most and stop wasting all the money on the other stuff!

its obviously a dead battery, but the real prob could be a charging problem, either put a battery in it or charge yours, when you get it running put a voltmeter across the battery terminals, anything less than 13.0volts means your alternator is not charging.

I replaced all that stuff 2 weeks ago cuz it wouldn't start. I was just lettin you guys know what i've already done so it can narrow down my source of the problem. Thanks for the super quick response. I guess I can get a voltmeter at autozone. I'll try that first.

Could it be a short thats killing the battery? It started right up when I started it at my house, then 5 mins later it wouldn't start.

Jesus Christ! you changed all of that stuff for this? That's an obvious dead battery.

ahh, just saw you changed that before, lol.

But it's still a dead battery. Now you just haveto find out why. Was it a crappy battery? Is the alternator crapping out? or is there something drawing on the battery while the car sits?

AutoZone will usually test your battery and alternator for free.

But if the battery was bad, why would it have started at my house and not started 5 minutes later? I guess i'll have it tested tomorrow.

You might have a bad alternater. I just replaced my alt because it was only puttin out 6 volts and when my battery was connected it would drain the battery within 45 mins. I changed my alt and all of that went away. Even if your alternater puts out the correct 13 volts it could have a short or a short in the wires running to the alt.

The battery was disconnected for the whole day, so i guess once I put it back in the alt could have killed it. P.S. Hellion...thats a badass ride.
