I would edit that part and say if you rotate counterclockwise, make sure you rotate past your mark and thencome backup on it clockwise. This is so much easier to do than to rotate the crank 2 complete revolutions! Other than that my vote is for a sticky! and by the way I have read most if not all of them!
if you only go around once, you will be 180° out of phase... you need to go around twice

Yes, but if you just back up a few degrees before zero and then come back up on zero rotating clockwise you don't have to turn the crank 2X

How could you have messed it up even after following this?

agreed that its an excellent write up. i do however have one thing to add just to help those who are not fortunate enough to have common sense. where you said to draw a line on the outside of the dizzy and then inside also, you had used a marker which is a good idea as most people would do the same, but make sure that you dont use a pencil! the lead/graphite (whatever) in the pencil actually conducts electricity and can cause a shor for that cylinder. its an old prank but if thats left like that for long it can wear through the plastic and as you could guess thats not good[&:]

dizzy won't go down that last little bit because the oil pump shaft (male) needs to be turned slightly to mesh properly with the bottom of the dizzy (female)
+1, that can be a pain, but if you got it on the right tooth of the cam/dizzy gear, you can just turn the motor over some and it should drop down the rest of the way onto the oil pump driveshaft
