Default trans issue

a while back i stole someone's thread and mentioned how my car seems to hesitate going into 2nd gear, even more so when i'm gettin on it...
basically i am unable to chirp 2nd gear because it will just not go in fast enough. if i really jam it, it grinds slightly and then falls in.

I know Adder had mentioned some kind of spring, i think..

my trouble here is that, although i'm capable of doing just about anything, i have never taken apart a transmission. honestly, they scare me.

anyone willing to walk me through this, or maybe give me a nice big diagram of what i need to do, and any special tools i need to talk to my snapon rep about?

i dont believe its the fork. all other gears go in perfect and quickly.

Adder mentioned he had the same problem, and corrected it, but of course he went offline right when i posted[:@][:@]

i figured he wasn't the only person that was able to solve this...

i know of at least 4 other people here with this problem, so aparently its common...

i look like a ***** driver when i nail it from a light and wait 2 seconds to hit 2nd. i hate it.
not to mention track times.

I cannot guarantee that my issue is the same as yours, but I found the synchro spring that holds the inserts in place to be installed improperly. My trans was rebuilt at 138k and it has always given me a problem in 3rd gear. Upon pulling my tranny apart to swap a drive gear in, I found the issue.

I'm actually on my way to bed, otherwise i'd toss up some diagrams. But Matt... If your interested, I have a rebuilt WC sitting in my garage... $100 plus your trans and its yours.... I need another case to build my A-5 into, and i'd rather not tear apart a rebuilt tranny to do it.

thats an interesting offer... what did you do, steal it? lol

i suppose as long as you have documentation of a rebuild, i will do that.

I have no documentation of the rebuild. A friend of mine built it for his fox, but has since put a TT kit in... so needless to say, the T-5 is kinda out of its league. And I'm about 15 minutes from providence.

wanna setup a weekend sometime, i'll come down and we'll swap 'em out real quick and try it out?

sorry to sound un-trustworthy, but this is my DD. the last thing i want to do is swap out for a worse trans.

so... it was rebuilt and then stored?

basically he called me up and asked if I wanted to buy a tranny... I was having problems with mine at the time, so I bought it. I was going to swap my input shaft in but when I got mine apart I realized what was wrong with it and I just decided to fix it instead... so now I have a spare.

I was going to swap my input into the fox trans, put it in my car, and rebuild my stock tranny with the A-5 kit
