It's not really teh HP that's the problem. Torque is a bigger problem. And then there's the traction issue. What are your friend's 60' times? If he has really good suspension and good tires, then Id be surprised to see that tranny last.
I can put 1000 HP / TQ through a T-5 and it will hold up if all I am doing is spinning the wheels all day long. Because the wheels will break free and spin before the tranny will go... they become the weakest link, so to speak. But what if I make it so that those tires have to stick? If i give it real traction, then all of a sudden teh tire aren't going to spin. That only leaves two options. Either teh car will accelerate like a abt out of hell, or the tranny will give out and die.
It's simple physics really. It takes a hell of a lot of energy to make a 2500+ pound car move suddenly like that. That isn't something you normalyl test on a dyno because traction isn't an issue. he drum is going to spin freely.

well you guys might not belive it but my friend has a 90 lx supercharged (vortec s trim) and he runs around 8 pounds of boost. 451 rwhp(he has the dyno sheets to prove it) he still has his stock t5 in his car and its daily driven, still going strong.. so i mean it cant be that bad of a tranny lol

very true samseed... and the stock t-5s are rated at 330... thats for hte 94-95 newayz... i think the used then earlier than that tho.... i say at least 90 on up dunno when they did the upgrade on the t-5.... but yeat its low... 330 and the car puts out 285... so very lil stretching room
if u have a shot at a t56 id get it... or a A5... just a t-5 rebuild from astro company... w.e. there called... they handle 550 i think... and the t56 hads 500 and the viper spec handles 650ish.... all rough guestaments going of memory cuz im to tired to look them up... but they are close enough for u to get hte idea... the A5 isnt to bad on price... unless u wanna fork out for a viper spec t56 idea just get te A5
