REAR END PROS Need Help!!!
Hey guys im attempting to do my own gears(attempting keyword) and ive followed the few really good guides on here ive found (http://www.corral.net/tech/drivetrain/gears.html, https://mustangforums.com/m_2535220/tm.htm) but now ive run into a problem i cant figure out. Im reassembling the pinion , pinion/shims/rear bearing/crush sleeve/outer bearing/slinger/seal/dustboot/nut all in that order as soon as i start to get the nut tight the whole pinion won't spin at all, i thought it was supposed to be able to spin freely until the crush sleeve started to crush and then it would start to tighten up to 15-30 in. lbs but as soon as i go to tighten it the whole assembly will barely move any suggestions as to whats going wrong??? thanks in advance

Thanks for the tips and links guys well i installed the pinion and torqued the hell out of it, then took it apart turns out i crushed the crush sleeve and just kept tightening past the sleeve (reason it wouldnt move) guess i was being to careful about it and having new bearings/seal i thought the pinion preload was to much but i think im on the right track now. I did run into another problem tho... when your putting the carrier into the diff. i broke what i think is a spacer? theres a bearing on each side+the cup for the bearings+ a solid spacer? is it ok to just install thinner spacers that = the same distance as the solid one?

RE: REAR END PROS Need Help!!!
that solid spacer is what sets you lash....you should stock up on different sized shims and play around with em, until you get you lash set perfect....that is the fun part....especially if you need to adjust the pinion depth!

RE: REAR END PROS Need Help!!!
i've had good luck with FRPP gears....99% of the time....you can use the stock pinion shim to set the pinion depth and once the carrier shims were the same for both gear sets
