While attempting to install my new distributor ignition pickup, I decided to forgo reading the instructions and jump right into it. I ended up prying off the metal collar attached to the distributor base plate, rather than taking off the retaining clip at the top of the collar to get the old ignition pickup off. I can't seem to get the collar to go back into the base plate regardless of how much persuasion my hammer puts out. I've thought of cutting a hole in a block of wood a little larger than the hold in the base plate (so the collar can slide through) and putting it in a vise. Sound like a good idea?

Any ideas one how to get the collar back onto the base plate? Any idea where I could get a new baseplate/collar without buying a new distributor?
