Default timing 0* wtf?!

ok so today i brought my car in to get the timing adjusted cuz it was hard to start after its was warm.. he said he checked it b 4 he did anything and he said it read 0* and i told him to set it at 12* when i dropped it off.. he set it at 12* and he said it pinged like a bastard so he returned close to where it was but it does start now easier when it has been warm.. does anyone know why the ***** it would be at 0* and run?

That would be my first guess as well... balancer problem. I'm guessing that your "0 degrees" was actually closer to 10 degrees.

the harmonic balancer is where the timing marks are. if the balancer is screwed up, it would give inaccurate readings.

Your worried about the balancer? Be thankful its not that chunk of steel behind it.

I can relate to all the problems, its always something at times buts an 89, youre bound to have creaks, groans, pops, whistles, and whatever at some point. Stuffdoes tendto wear out after 18 years.Patience.
