Default distributor for carb?

hello everyone i recently bought a fuel injected 5.0 and im going to put it in my fuel injected 4cylinder. im going to make it carbed and have already got the carb and getting the intake, but im not quite sure how to run the ignition system. What is the distributor(examples) that i need to use, and what do i need to wire it to? do i need an ignition box such as the 6al? also will i need another coil? thanks

mid 70's to mid 80's ford duraspark style distributors if your junk yard hunting. should have a vacuum advance canister on them, with the larger (newer) style distributor cap. it'll have two wires coming out of it, and goes straight to the aftermarket ignition box you should get. alot of people use the MSD 6AL box, but honestly the Crane Hi-6 ignition is a better unit, with better features, for about the same price. if your going aftermarket dizzy then you have alot of options including the chevy HEI coil-in-the-cap style units, which are a one wire hookup to a 12v source and they work.... but they look lame because it looks like a gm part on your mustang[:'(]

You could also buy one of the Mallory Unilite or MSD ready-to-run distributors.....the 6al box (and alikes) are optional for those ditributors. I've used a Mallory Comp 9000 for yrs., and the only addition I would recommend, is the installation of their noise/voltage filter protection.....one ground wire, one power, the other to coil (-) and you're ready to go.

that distributor will work just fine, one wire to a 12 volt source and its hooked up. no other coil or ignition box needed.

if you went the ignition box route, you could use a distributor like this:

along with a msd or similar box, but really for the price of the HEI setup you cant go wrong.

if you go with a stock ford type dist. you will have to have one from a 85 gt with a 5spd, this will give you the correct cam gear so you don't ruin your cam with the wrong dist. gear as there is a cast iron and billet style ............................

it depends on the route you are goin. You can go old school and get point(definitely not suggesting that) or go with the duraspark like suggested and use a box cause it already has the sensor. Just remember, you have to use a bronze distributor gear with late model roller blocks. If you don't use the right gear with a roller cam you will destroy it.
