Default 1995 GT and questions

i am going to test drive a 95 gt tomorrow. Now my question is they say an axle bearing is going bad i believe they said it was the outside one. Is this something that anyone can fix or is it something to pay someone to do.

Also it has 158000 miles on a stock motor. this also kind of worries me.

Mods:
polished intake
flows
msd cap and rotor
$800 bucks into the ac replaced everything
stock gears
small cam they don't know what it is
the car cost 3200 and that is the bottom line they can go and thats to pay a loan off.

the exterior looks like around a 7 out of 10
the interior is around a 8-9 out of 10

3200 for an Sn95 is damn good. If it is a nice car (straight body, etc.) I would buy it. You will know once you see it and drive it whether or not you want to buy it. 158k is nothing. plus, you can pick up a new block for little $$$... or just build another 347.

i just bought a 95 with 166xxx miles for 2900. so far i have no regrets, but mine needs more than a bearing. i know you will be happy if the car is a good one. im not sure about how hard it is to replace a bearing, hopefully someone else can elaborate on that for you.

outer axle bearings are easy (they are actually the only axle bearings)

remove wheel and brake assembly from given side
remove diff cover
remove diff pin and S-clip
push axle in and remove c-clip
remove axle
remove axle seal
remove axle bearing

sometimes they are a PITA to get out, sometimes they slide right out.

The S clip doesnt need to come out to pull an axle. Theres enough room to pull off the c clip without removing the S clip.

thanks adder. sounds like it would be a good time to replace the axles and out gears in it

exactly... pick up everything you need for a full gear swap. 31 splines, carrier, etc... and do a full rear end rebuild

Its actually not that much more money then just installing gears, labor-wise

well i went and test drove it. there is definitely something wrong with the rear end you can hear it whining. but it doesn't sound like a gear whine.

the alignment is off. the front wheels are worn. and the steering wheel has play in it is there a way to fix it?

sounds like possible bad inner/outer tie rods. easy fix.
worse case scenario, needs a new rack.
you might wanna try and talk him down a bit. there seems to be enough wrong with it that you could get it down a few hundred more.

i wish i could but like i said its what they owe on it. and you can't switch it unless a loan is paid for. Do you think its worth it to buy it? or look for another?
