what year explorers should i look for when looking got gt40 heads? thanks guys

will my shorty headers be affected by gt40 heads or the gt40p heads? which are better gt40 or gt40p?

Your headers should work fine with gt40's, but you'll have problems with P heads. There is lots of argument about whats better, but head to head, the P head makes more power overall unworked. But then you'll need P specific headers, and the sparkplugs are in very strange positions, kindof hard to get to at times.

The P heads are made for torque, and also have very weak springs valve springs, so if you are going to get a set find one that someone has already worked so you dont have to spend the money on them. I used a set on a 354 stroker block in a coupe, and they were the weakest link. I wound up going with AFR 225's. For a mild build up to a decent build GT40P heads are ok. In my opinion working with GT40's and P heads the GT40 in aluminum are a lot better power builders.

my car is my DD and the most power ill want to push when done is 350-400. will the gt40 heads allow the car to make it there when the time comes for other supporting mods?

yes sir. no doubt. gt40 heads are the baseline of many powerful setups on here. they aren't the greatest you can buy, no doubt, but for the money, they can't be beat.

i looked up these heads on checker and there are two casting #s...which is better:

E6SE 132.99
E5TE;E7TE 173.99

I just looked up 97 explorer with 5.0 and it says american cylinder head, did they rebuild or new from chikity china?
