Balancer/Cam Removal
Hey I am in the middle of my H/CI swap and I need to remove the balancer/timing chain... is there any tips to removing these so when I put them back in my timing will be accurate? I marked my distributer at #1 but it is not at 0 on the balancer, should I rotate it to read 0?
And if anyone has any tips for removing the actual bolt I am all ears, I am planning on picking up a breaker bar tonight for it because I don't have access to an impact
Thanks

RE: Balancer/Cam Removal
line up the balancer to 0, when you pop off the timing cover the marks on the timing chain gears should line up. reinstall the same way and your good[8D]
a decent breaker bar will be fine for head bolts and such - to get your balancer out if you have a manual trans just put the car in gear that will keep the motor from spinning so you can break the bolt loose. btw, i took my headbolts off with my teeth, cause im a real man

I heard from redass you just sucked them off
When my distributer is pointed at the number one spark plug shouldn't it be at 0 on the balancer? Just curious because it isn't right now

no, when your balancer is at 0 the dizzy should be pointing to the post on the dizzy cap that is @ about 1:00 - if its not, go one more revolution on the crank and then it should be at 1:00. theres your TDC.
touche' on the sucking them off......... touche'

thats what I was thinking that I might be 180 off, becuase it is not really close to 0. I will have to give that a shot tonight, I am so paranoid about screwing up my timing and destroying my engine the first time I start it.
thanks for the help, I will try to find contra for you tonight... I think I know where it is

yeah dammnit... lol
and even if you were 180 deg. out it would just pop and backfire it wouldnt "destroy" anything - which should be of some comfort in case you screw something up. what kinda timing chain are you putting back on it?
