ORIGINAL: mrbigshot
as far a supercharger losses you lose more than 30 hp, actual tests show a tad over 80hp loss from the supercharger drag. on a bone stock a procharger ps1 @9psi gained 118 hp, the same 9psi on a simular turbo gained 198 hp.
This statement is horrible in so many ways. It does more harm to the automotive community than good.

Especially when you factor in the increased thermal efficiency of turbos over centri s/c(though not by much) lb for lb of boost a turbo will make more hp. And since they both operate completely differently....plenty of unconsidered variables....also how can you have a turbo that's simalar to a s/c? The only similarities are that they're both centrifugal compressors, but the similarities end there

modern turbos operate the same as a centrifical supercharger. where do you think the design came from. insteal of a impeller wheel there is a cog drive that turns the transmission(for lack of better words) on a supercharger. if you could turn 60,000-100,000 rpma supercharger could be directly driven like a turbo.what makes them different? air goes in, gets compressed and goes out. the only difference is what drives them.

roots blowers are different.

You listed nothing specific about either the blower or turbo and nothing specific about the motor. There are endless variables that could play on the setups. The turbo will make more power, but to put number on the exact difference is only good on that specific motor at that specific time. And even then it can be partially contributed to other factors. You could have swapped cams and shown both a smaller and larger gain for the turbo. You could have swapped blowers, made the same psi, and shown gains and losses to those numbers.

Turbos and centri s/c do not operate the same. When was the last time you saw a centri s/c making full boost before 3,000rpm? And modern turbochargers have a slightly higher adiabadic efficency than centri s/c do, which means lb for lb of boost pressure a turbo will make more power(even if only slightly). Plus a turbo doesn't take near the same amount of power to operate than a belt driven blower does. A turbo systemhas a slight exhuast restriction that is used to turn the turbo to make boost and a s/c sucks power straight from the crank to turn it. Turbos can spin independantly of engine speed and s/c can not. I'd hardly call all that the same. They both make power differently
