Youshould be able to read the numbers by the crank for the timing marks. Usually you will find zero and anything to the right or clockwise will be advanced and to the left or counterclockwise will be retarding the time. Also should say ATDC and BTDC on it to help ya out. I just put white out on whereever you want it to be set at like 10 is stock for example and line it up on your timing mark with a timing light.

set the timing to 10* advanced and have it dyno tuned. with a sc and n2o your going to blow it up if its not tuned

even with no nitrous the motor must be tuned. the sc alone requires a dyno tune, the nitrous just makes it that much more important. a 50 shot on a boosted motor will be like a 75-100 shot on a N/A motor

If you know the brand balancer if you didnt buy it yourself you can do a quick search and see how it is set up. I do know that clockwise on the crank is advancing it and moving counter is retarding it. I cant ever remember which way to move the distributor unless im actualyl doing it.Start at 0 and go from there.

+1 on getting it tuned. I got just a supercharger on mine and i never even started it until it had a base tune in it.
