This hose is coming out of my intake manifold, it leads to a small electrical unit that just hangs there under my hood. the unit has some sort of power source, but i dont know what this is for. can anyone tell me if i need this because it annoys me.

not sure of the exact name, but i have mine blocked up, but just have the electrical thing plugged in, it went to the purge canister or somethin like that i think

yea i think thats where mine tries to lead to but it just sits near the fenderwell. maybe roundman can tell me what this thing is.

I believe it goes to the charcoal canister.On newer cars I think it is called an evap valve.For the evaperative system.

I just checked in my haynes book the books says it is a canister purge valve.

do i need this thing? can i remove it and the electrical spout safely?

If the other end is not connected to anything unplug the connector and see if it sets the check engine light.

8719 is right about this valve. I wouldn't worry about removing it as it ain't hurting anything and it does control the fumes in the gas tank so they don't leak out into the air, they're stored in the carbon canister and engine crankcase and everytime you start the car they get sucked out and burned up.

but the hose leading from my manifold to that electrical unit is not really plugged into anything, it just hangs there. its not plugged into the canister. should i try to plug it in?
