Default Distributor Gear?

What type of distributor Gear should I use for a 71 model motor? See my motor I pulled out of my mustang isa 1992 5.0 gt. Im putting the 71 motor in and was thinking of using my distributor out of my 92 if this is possible???? If it is then what type of gear? steel? and also I realize the firing order is different because of the HO 302 and the older 71 motor, but cant I just move the plug wires around on the distributor to match what the pcm is sending to the different order on the plugs? Buying gear later today any info soon will be helpful, thanks................

Get a new distributor gear. They're only ~$25 for an OEM replacement, and well worth the peace of mind. Especially after long. Summitracing.com sells them

Edit: just reread, I had thought you were saying you were going to use the gear out of your old distributor, but that apparently isn't the case. Any would work fine, really.

Get a brass/bronze one and a hardened oil pump driveshaft. That way if the oil pump ever locks up itll shear the teeth off of the gear and shut the motor down. Thats real peace of mind. Other than you might get stranded [:@].

Flat tappet cam = iron or bronze gear
Since your setup is EFI, having the 154..... firing order will cause problems in the order the ECM fire the injectors, and rewiring is not recommended......... http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/?p=92

I forgot about the injectors firing problem, I dont know what to do now.........Only thing that comes to mind is to get a pcm out of a fox thats not an HO like mine, but then that still might not work right. And I dont want to rewire the injectors..............I could switch to carb......but dont wanna.........any more ideas on this problem or the firing problem????
