Yo, they aren't all umbrealla seals. There are different types. There are o ring seals, umbrella seals, and positive seals. They are very important and you can buy them from felpro. Replace them while you have the heads apart if they are bad. You don't sound like you know how to rebuild a head though. You don't just take it apart and throw it back together. There are many measurements and you may need a valve job.

You easily have years of experience on me here, I just started working at a garage last summer and we dont do much engine work, start as an apprentice next january........

Yeah, my plan was to take it apart, new gaskets and paint, throw it back together, it was running great when pulled. But these seals were GONE, and the motor was rebuilt 2 years ago. The seals are like cups.
