i was driving around today and the check engine light comes on for a second. then again for a second. stops for a few minutes, then will randomly do it again but 3-4 times. i continued to drive around trying to find out if it was something that resulted in something i was doing but i couldn't reproduce it... any ideas?

EGR/Air Thermactor codes most likely.

Time to scan it.

I read it some where on this fourm and it was the EGR doing that

egr valve position sensor... caused by a faulty sensor or carbon buildup in the EGR.

when you run the codes, if you get code 31, replace the egr and sensor.

Check your O2 sensors and make sure they havent loosened themselves. The same thing happened to me and it turned out to be one of my O2 sensors.

o2 sensors are one of the tightest parts of the car. with the exhaust expanding and contracting constantly, they become SUPER tight in there.
if your o2's came loose, you better hit the gym.

i didn't come here saying my light is on, tell me whats wrong. i came here saying its randomly coming on. as in its not staying on so nothings wrong, but what could be wrong if it randomly comes on and random times.
i planned on scanning it tomorrow, its to late now to, but at least i got some positive feedback pointing me in the right direction.

My CEL was the EGR valve. If i were you, I'd do what i did. Take off the EGR valve and spray it down with carb cleaner and try and clear up all that carbon. While your at it spray the throttle body down and the IAC (i believe thats what it is.) Its real simple to do and cheap. A lot better than buying a new EGR valve and sensor. That seemed to fix my CEL. I had to do it twice though. First time i didnt use carb cleaner and the light came back after a few days but atleast i know its the EGR valve now. Since i sprayed the carb cleaner in it the light hasnt come back..."crossing fingers"
