Default HEADS

I know there are a million types of heads out there to get for our 5.0's... Now I want to bring up the question of which are the best. I know that a lot of people use the Edelbrock Heads in combination with their RPM manifolds and what not. I have been lookin around because I am thinking about getting some for my birthday. I have heard sooo many good things about the AFR 165cc Street heads, but have heard of the same HP gains from a set of GT-40X aluminum heads as well, and they are half the price.

For a powerful street car with the occasional trip to the track, would you venture for the much cheaper GT-40X heads, or spend the extra money on the AFR's? It doesn't really sound logical to me. The guy a few houses down has a 12 second 88 GT and it has GT-40X heads. Seems to work for him. What do you think?

I have heard that the AFR 165's are an 80 hp bolt on!!!! I also seen where the afr 185's added 75 hp over gt40x's on a Ford Crate Motor. I am looking for heads too, I think I have made up my mind on AFR's. Check out AFR's website and look at the articles about the Ford Heads. Go to www.airflowresearch.com and cick ARTICLES, check these out especially the ultimate guide to cylinder heads part that MM+FF did. By the way, where did you Find Gt40X for 1/2 the price.

I found the GT40X heads from hawaii racing out here in Southern Cali, they are something like 860$ for a pair, as the AFR's are 1300$ ... I was being a little facesious, but it's close enough to 1/2 the price. Well, I know about the afr website, and have researched them very much, and I know about the HP they give, but I have also heard of instances where the GT40X heads gained about 70HP over stock heads, and for a 500$ difference the 10HP doesn't really make that big of a deal to me. Was this story just a FLUKE? I am still leaning towards the 165cc Street heads, but am just broadening my outlook and keeping my ears open.

I know of someone with a 93 GT (cobra replica) who has the 165cc heads, bolted on something like 76HP, he goes "there's a supercharger right there!" lol..
