Default Tranny?

Ok so I had an 89' 5.0 that I wrecked well I go ahold of a 4cylinder (it's an 88')and I'm pulling everything out of it and putting everything from the v8 into the 4cylinder. But my question I have someone that ones wants the tranny from the 4cyclinder to put in his 5.0 auto to convert to a manual. Will it work out right and bolt up to everything? He says it will but I talked to someone else and he told me he doesn't think it would be strong enough for the v8 coming from a 4cylinder. I don't know if I should sell it to him b/c he's my friend and if I know it wont work I don't want to cause trouble or anything for him. Also when I pull the 4cylinder someone told me to try and sell it b/c someone can use it as a dirt track car in a 4cylinder class like stock 4 or something. Is that true if so I will keep it and build a race car b/c I want to race a dirttrack car.

On a different note...I graduated today!! YAY

i do believe it works, many people have used the 4 cyl trannys with 5.0s because they have higher ratios or something

go here..... http://www.ddperformance.com/Trans%20ID%20chart.htm

torque rating is lower and the pilot shaft diameter is smaller

it can be done but not worth it at all imo

Not All T-5's are Created Equal
Not all Borg Warner T-5's are the same. The first T-5 five speeds were introduced to market in 1982, in all things, a AMC Spirit/Concord. In 1983, T-5's were introduced to Mustangs and are currently still used in the V-6 Mustangs. The T-5 is the only American made standard transmission to span almost 20 years of production. Because of the large quantities of T-5's produced, many parts are interchangeable. There are now over 200 different T-5 transmission assembly part numbers and still counting.
