Default how to pull codes

i have read a thousand post of people pulling codes and would like to know how to do this. someone told me to get the device from autzone but when i asked they had no idea what i was talking about. so where can i get one of these nifty devices and about how much are they.

Assuming it's a pre-'96....you don't need a scanner, a paper clip (and a test light if CEL doesn't work) will do.... DIY KOEO/KOER/Cylinder Balance Self-Test . If it's an OBD-II, yep...you'll need a scanner.

yea sorry didn't specify it is a 91... wow that looks really confusing. i am going to have to give it a good read when i get home from work. thanks for the link
