The vette is a Sports Car (only has 2 seats)
The SVT Cobra is a Muscle Car (has a back seat)

So, right now, the only true competition for the Mustang from the GM ranks os the GTO. But Ford has the new GT to battle against the vette, that is if they can get all of the bugs ironed out of it.

Back in the 60s/70s, muscle cars were also referred to as performance cars. So, why can't that be said now? IMO, the Mustang is still a muscle car, period.

actually it wasnt referred to one. its known as a pony car. mucle car was ...chevelle,nova,charger and etc not a mustang.... and a woping 285 really cant be called muscle

Have to call BS on that big guy, the Mustang is a Muscle car hands down. It is what you can do to the car, that makes it what it is today.

So, let me get this right. A Boss9 Mustang=not a muscle car??!!?? I know what the term pony car means. In that case, the LS1 Camaro is a pony car, not a muscle car? Nah, there all muscle cars. If the Mustang didn't have a running horse in the grill back at it's introduction, the term "pony car" would have never been coined. Nova, Chevelle, GTO, Challenger, Mustang - they are all muscle cars. Again, this is just my opinion.
