Default *UPDATED QUESTION* Went to prime the oil pump..

And the stupid shaft fell! I was able to fish it out with a attena magnet thingy but...How do I know when I have it sitting back in its little slot? I'm afraid to let it off the magnet and it ends up falling all the way down into the pan...

Will the little washer thing stop it from falling all the way into the pan?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
***************Ok so, I'm thinking I can take a thin but long piece of duct tape, stick it to the side of the oil pump drive shaft, and lower it into its home on the oil pump....Then pry it off with a flathead screwdriver. Anyone think this will work? ***************

I'm pretty sure the washer is to keep it from coming out the top

That's exactly what that washer/ring is for. It should be larger in dia than the hole the bottom of the dizzy goes through so that doesn't happen. The only way to set it properly, is to pull the pan/pump, put the ring where it should be and put it back together. When the rod pulls up the ring should hit the block before the bottom of the pump drive shaft comes out of the pump. It's there to keep the shaft from falling into the pan when you pull the dizzy

2 keep the shaft in the distributor when u put it in the block put some greese on the tip of the shaft and that will usually keep it from falling

Changed my question a bit on my first post. Oh, and don't worry about answering the top half, I just left it there so that you can understand what I mean in the new question. =p
