Fox with gt-40 soul?
What's the diference between Ford's Lightning engine and that Gt-40 engine?
A friend of mine offered me a Lightning engine for $2,500.00 with 28,000 miles on it.
I'm considering swaping that Lightning engine into my 1989 GT, my question is that possible?
Also he said that engine is the same as the new Ford GT-40.
As far as I know the Gt-40 engine specs are:
5.4L DOHC supercharged V-8
550 horsepower and 500 lb – ft of torque
Aluminum engine block
High-flow, 4 valve cylinder heads with dual feed injectors.
Dual overhead camshafts.
Water to air intercooler
Forged steel crankshaft.
Shot-peened H-beam connecting rods and forged aluminum pistons.
Dry-sump lubrication.
Supercharger, Eaton Model 2300 roots type supercharger.
Are they the same?
I'm serious about that swap but, I thought you guys could help me on how is it compared and if someone has done it before!

what lighting? the 5.8 one? or the Gen II motor? the Gen II motor is totally different then the FORD GT... there is not such thing as of FORD Gt40 with a 5.4
i woudl take a ford lightning gen I motor. the Gen II motor can work they did it in thet older issues of MMFF but not worth it

My 5.0 has over 280,000 miles on it, and I think it's time for his retirement, I thought of a rebuild but now I have that option, that engine won't stay in that junker for long so I need your advice.
I thought the Ford GT had a 5.4 ltrs.

Ford GT is a 5.4 hand built motor. a FORD gt40 isnt a 5.4
that is a good motor, but so much work to get it to work you will need a 5' hood cause i hink they used a 4' and still had to cut a hole in it to fit. also so much tuning and custom stand alone to use it

All I know is that it came off a 2003, ford lightning, that was totalled, he claims it's a 5.4 ltrs, all I saw was that huge block and the blower on the top. It's in perfect working conditions.

go witht ehgt40 block it's designed to fit in the 5.0 and so much can be done with it, you will be talkin bout lots of non-worth while mods to get the lightning engine to fit, and if you slap a super charger on the gt 40 engine you will have just as much fun, plus wont need to get a huge cowl and have to fabricate and such. the guy should put the lightning engine in another lightning truck and the mustang deserves a nice gt40 engine or a 331 or a 347 stroker or something af this caliber. basically made for the stang

There was a mustang with the 5.4 Lighning motor in it at a show here in Burlington. It had a 4 inch hood and had a custon fiberglass adition made so that the motor would have room. The car was sick, but the hood was fugly.
