You want to go with a converter that is going to put u in ur powerband on launch. Also, gear selection is all about being at your redline at the 1320 mark. Tire size, tranny ratios, engine redline, and power all facter in. The only real way to figure it out is trial and error. i would say it's better to be too low then shutting down before the finish line.

And no stock torque converter is not fine with a stock cam. You are still not launching in ur powerband. U really need a cam to match that intake, then get a converter. At that point at least u'll have a powerband to work off. Then it's heads to take advantage of the intake and cam. You can go with a stock converter, I guess I should say it is ideal for u to be launching in ur powerband not a necessity.
