89 5.0 swap to 69 Cougar quest
Hello, I am new to this forum and I have been looking for some people who can help me out with my swap. I am in the process of rebuilding my 1969 Cougar, it's almost rolling except theyrecieved in the wrong shocks for the rear and I have to go in on tuesday to re-order the right ones. The motor and tranny, from a 1989 5.0 LX with AOD, is not in the car yet. We have the whole Mustang donor car, so will we need a wiring harness adaptor? Also, the fuel pump will need to be changed to a higher pressure unit, should I just use the tank out of the Mustang (if it will fit) or is there a external fuel pump offered that can draw after the sending unit? Any advise is welcome, thanks for looking.

Yea, it'll fit and will work fine. I put a 5.0L EFI in my '69 Shelby nearly 10 years ago now... it runs great, good fuel milage, performance is also good... probably equal to or slightly better than the original 351W it replaced...

You'll have to integrate the main harness from the engine into the engine compartment wiring harness... not too big of a problem ifyou're sharp on wiring. The FI control wiring harness and computer has its own harness... or at least mine did... keep it all intact and install it complete in the car without too many modifications... you'll have to use a high pressure FI pump and also plumb a return line to the tank, a fuel pump relay, controlled by the ECM turns the pump on and off depending on conditions... it'll have to be canibalized from the other car along with lots of other odds & ends...

Again, it's complicated to make the change, but mine works great... been driving it since '94 with no problems... dead reliable, looks good, sounds good, an will absolutely melt the tires in first gear...

Good luck!
